The winner, Ernst Alm, the strong hero from the deep woods of V\u00e4sterbotten, and the imposing Mora girl, side by side at the finish \u2013 this was a sight which warmed many hearts. There could not be a better end for a Vasalopp \u2013 so, at least, thought the organisers who since that first year have, in good time, picked out a kranskulla* from Mora and its neighbourhood.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"\">* A\u00a0<em>kulla<\/em>\u00a0is a girl from Dalarna, a\u00a0<em>krans<\/em>\u00a0is a wreath; so\u00a0<em>kranskulla<\/em>\u00a0very literally translated would be \u201dwreath girl\u201d which is not so very happily poetic in English \u2013 \u201dgarland girl\u201d might do, but kranskulla is best left untranslated!<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading vl-text-md\">Tough requirements<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"\">To be chosen as kranskulla is nearly as special as winning Vasaloppet itself, and almost as difficult!\u00a0There are very tough requirements and to qualify as kranskulla a girl must satisfy certain criteria. To begin with, she must be from Dalarna and unmarried. Moreover, she should have demonstrated sporting merits, and here performance and achievements in competitions and other arrangements are taken into account. Sporting merits within her family also carry weight.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading vl-text-md\">Kransmasar<strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"\">It\u2019s not just the winning men who are honoured with laurels and kisses! In 1988 the first kransmasen made his appearance.
