Some news ahead of Vasaloppet’s Winter Week 2026

17 December 2025

New start groups in Tjejvasan’s competition class, a new start location for Öppet Spår Monday 30, and several anniversaries – with two months to go until Vasaloppet’s Winter Week 2026, preparations in Mora and Sälen are in full swing. Here are some of the latest updates ahead of this winter’s events.

New start location for Öppet Spår Monday 30, 2026
Starting from this winter’s Öppet Spår Monday 30, all participants will begin their journey towards Mora from the start area in Oxberg, in line with the other 30-kilometre races. Previously, Öppet Spår Monday 30 started at the Oxberg checkpoint, but to simplify logistics, Vasaloppet has decided that all 30-kilometre races will start from the Oxberg start area from now on.

Vasaloppet 30 and Vasaloppet 45 for the 30th time
Vasaloppet 30 and Vasaloppet 45 will be held for the 30th time this winter, 2026! This will, of course, be marked with an extra festive atmosphere during the races. More information will follow at a later stage. In both Vasaloppet 30 and Vasaloppet 45, there are two participants who have completed every race since the start in 1997, and they will naturally be honoured in a special way.

New start groups and updated seeding for Tjejvasan
It is now easier to register if you are racing in Tjejvasan’s competition class this winter. The previous start groups in the competition class have been replaced by Elite, Group 1 and Group 2, and those who meet the criteria with a FIS code and valid seeding can register themselves directly. You can now be seeded into the elite group by completing one of Vasaloppet’s own seeding races from Vasaloppet’s Winter Week 2025 onwards.

Number bibs for the 30 and 45-kilometre races collected in Mora and Oxberg
During Vasaloppet’s Winter Week 2026, number bibs for the 30 and 45-kilometre races will be distributed in Mora and at the Oxberg start area on race day. Previously, it was also possible to collect number bibs in Sälen, but as only 2–3 percent of participants used this option, we have decided to only offer number bib collection for these races in Mora and Oxberg from this winter onwards.

Everyone skiing Vasaloppet 2026 receives a hat as a gift
Whether you are taking part for the first time or you’re a seasoned veteran, everyone skiing the world’s biggest long-distance ski race deserves something extra. We are therefore celebrating our long-standing collaboration with Craft by giving all participants in the 102nd Vasaloppet a Vasaloppet Thermal Hat. The hat has been specially developed for participants in Vasaloppet 2026 and will be handed out in Sälen and Mora when you collect your number bib.
