A very intense traffic weekend lies ahead, with both Vasaloppet traffic and winter holiday traffic. Here are recommendations and tips for those participating in Vasaloppet and for those traveling by car to support a participant.

Travel together to the start
Choose Vasaloppet’s official buses as your first option and carpooling as your second. If bus tickets are sold out, try to share a ride with friends. You can also look for travel companions via the carpooling app Nabogo.

Allow extra travel time
If you are driving to the start, expect traffic to move very slowly and there to be a high risk of queues. With heavy traffic, the journey from Mora to the start area in Sälen may take around 2.5 hours or more. From Tandådalen, the trip may take about 1.5 hours – possibly even longer due to snowfall and snow clearance operations. In addition, you need to factor in the time required for parking and walking to the start. Remember that parking attendants are there to help everyone—please follow their instructions.

Park wisely if you are supporting a participant
If you plan to follow a participant along Vasaloppsvägen, be aware that traffic may move very slowly. There are parking areas at the checkpoints in Mångsbodarna, Evertsberg, Oxberg and Hökberg. Apart from these, parking opportunities along Vasaloppsvägen are very limited. It is not permitted to drive into the checkpoints at Smågan and Eldris.

Important! Always leave access for emergency vehicles
For everyone’s safety, respect no-parking zones—ambulances, police and other essential services must always be able to get through.

Another tip for you as a Vasaloppet participant is to collect your race bib before Sunday—if possible. This allows you to attach the labels to warm skis, read the information in the bib envelope, and prepare the evening before, giving you a calmer morning at the start area.

Good luck!
