The covid-19 situation is improving and restrictions are easing, but only the elite can compete in the Vasaloppet Arena this August. What's the reason? Vasaloppet CEO Johan Eriksson explains why and answers frequently asked questions about the upcoming summer.
Once again, the pandemic prevents the regular Vasaloppet Summer Week from going ahead, but participants can still reach their cycling or running finish line – in Hemmavasan. Last year's success is back, now upgraded with great prizes, including an electric car from Volvo. "We know that many have trained extra hard this past year, so it feels good to be able to offer a safe and flexible solution. At the same time, we are happy that elite participants this year can compete in Cykelvasan 90, Ultravasan 90 and Ultravasan 45 on location in the Vasaloppet Arena," says Johan Eriksson, Vasaloppet's CEO.
From Wednesday, May 12, applications are open for Jubileumsvasan, a race that will reproduce the very first Vasaloppet in 1922. The five members of the jury have now been presented: Johan Eriksson, Susanna Kallur, Petter Karlsson, Karin Mattsson and Johanna Ojala.

Vasaloppet celebrates 100 years in 2022 and what better way to commemorate than to ski as they did in 1922? A ninety km historic Vasaloppet will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 – "Jubileumsvasan" – with the goal of replicating the first race as close as is possible. Registration for the challenge of the century opens on Wednesday, May 12, and a jury will select 139 skiers who get the chance to participate in Jubileumsvasan.
The pandemic continues to affect the world and create challenges for society at large, and so too for Vasaloppet. With nearly four months to go until the summer races in the Vasaloppet Arena, planning and preparation is in full swing.
The goal is to be able to hold Vasaloppet's Summer Week 2021 with twelve bike and running races in the Vasaloppet Arena on August 13–21. "Right now we're reviewing what conditions there will be and we're ready to make adjustments as needed to be able to welcome participants to the Vasaloppet Summer Week on location," says Johan Eriksson, CEO of Vasaloppet.
Registration for Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2022 and 100th anniversary opened this Sunday morning. Vasaloppet, held on Sunday, March 6th next year, is now fully booked and over 28,000 participants have already registered for one of the Winter Week 2022 races.
It was a different Vasaloppet winter 2021, but we got it done. Due to the pandemic, Tjejvasan and Vasaloppet were the only races completed and only elite skiers could participate. But thanks to an open Vasaloppet Arena, all the recreational skiers could cross the finish line of their training too, during three and a half weeks in Vasaåket. There were many days of sunshine and blue skies, for example during Vasaloppet where a powerful tailwind contributed to strong record times. Over 1.6 million participants have passed under the classic finish line portal in Mora since the first Vasaloppet on March 19, 1922. A birthday celebration beyond the usual is planned for the 100th anniversary and with our sights set on Vasaloppet's upcoming 100th year we now present some long-awaited news – skate style will be allowed in Öppet Spår Monday.
