The present is difficult and the future is uncertain. We know that many are struggling; health care workers, the elderly, schools, big companies, small companies, organizers of sporting events and the overall world population. We're currently aiming to carry out Vasaloppet's Summer Week 2020 as planned; at the same time we are closely monitoring updates and recommendations from our Swedish authorities.
Visma Ski Classics season X (2019/2020) got an abrupt end due to the COVID-19 virus when the last three races, Birkenbeinerrennet, Reistadløpet, and Ylläs-Levi, were cancelled. Although, nine out of twelve events were successfully executed in an exciting and surprising season. Several young male and female skiers made themselves a name within long distance skiing this winter and the legends in Visma Ski Classics (skiers with at least five victories) continues to show how incredible strong they are. At 09:00 on Sunday, March 15 Vasaloppet opens registration for the ski races in Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2021, which will be held between February 26 and March 7. Here we look back and summarise statistics and other interesting facts from the newly completed Winter Week 2020. How many started? How many viewed the Swedish Television broadcasts? And which celebrities reached the finish line?
In heavy snowfall and tough conditions Petter Eliassen, Team Ragde Eiedom, and Lina Korsgren, Team Ramudden, won the 90 km long Vasaloppet. Eliassen passed Stian Hoelgaard, Team Koteng, in the last few meters winning Vasaloppet for the second time with a winning margin of one second. The winning time was 4.25,14. Lina Korsgren skied to a big victory in the women's class winning in 4.41,02 and 57th place in total of the race. Korsgren was more than six minutes ahead of Britta Johansson Norgren, Lager 157 Ski Team. Watch all the participants crossing the finish line!
On Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 08:00 millions of TV viewers will sit down to follow the start in Sälen of the 96th Vasaloppet. Vasaloppet is fully booked, which means 15,800 registered participants. In total over 58,000 participants have registered for the races in Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2020. Here are this year's conditions leading up to the world's biggest cross-country ski race.
...while participants in Vasaloppet 30 this Friday afternoon ski across the finish line in Mora, the sun at their back, Vasaloppet can happily confirm that they have a final "go" for both Öppet Spår Sunday and Öppet Spår Monday. And Vasaloppet 45 will also run on Tuesday with the new start in Evertsberg.
On Tuesday (2020-02-18), at midnight, online registration closes for Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2020. After that you can register on location, right up until the start. Here Vasaloppet will present some interesting statistics from the current registration numbers for Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2020.
Due to prevailing weather conditions and lack of snow in the Vasaloppet Arena, Vasaloppet has decided to move the start place of two Winter Week races. Vasaloppet 45 (formerly Halvvasan) and Nattvasan 45 will start in Evertsberg instead of Oxberg. At the same time work is continuing to secure snow for the Vasaloppet track in the Winter Week 2020.
With one week to go until Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2020, snow distribution is continuing in the Vasaloppet Arena to prepare for the arrival of, so far, almost 56,000 registered participants. "Our work is going according to plan. For the weekend of February 15–16 we plan to have snow on the course from Sälen to Mora," says Tommy Höglund, Vasaloppet's Sport Manager.
