The pandemic continues to affect the world and create challenges for society at large, and so too for Vasaloppet. With nearly four months to go until the summer races in the Vasaloppet Arena, planning and preparation is in full swing.
The goal is to be able to hold Vasaloppet's Summer Week 2021 with twelve bike and running races in the Vasaloppet Arena on August 13–21. "Right now we're reviewing what conditions there will be and we're ready to make adjustments as needed to be able to welcome participants to the Vasaloppet Summer Week on location," says Johan Eriksson, CEO of Vasaloppet.
Registration for Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2022 and 100th anniversary opened this Sunday morning. Vasaloppet, held on Sunday, March 6th next year, is now fully booked and over 28,000 participants have already registered for one of the Winter Week 2022 races.
It was a different Vasaloppet winter 2021, but we got it done. Due to the pandemic, Tjejvasan and Vasaloppet were the only races completed and only elite skiers could participate. But thanks to an open Vasaloppet Arena, all the recreational skiers could cross the finish line of their training too, during three and a half weeks in Vasaåket. There were many days of sunshine and blue skies, for example during Vasaloppet where a powerful tailwind contributed to strong record times. Over 1.6 million participants have passed under the classic finish line portal in Mora since the first Vasaloppet on March 19, 1922. A birthday celebration beyond the usual is planned for the 100th anniversary and with our sights set on Vasaloppet's upcoming 100th year we now present some long-awaited news – skate style will be allowed in Öppet Spår Monday.
Norway then Sweden among the men, Sweden then Norway among the women. Tord Asle Gjerdalen won ahead of Anton Karlsson, taking his first Vasaloppet win at a record time – 50 years to the day after Norway's very first win in Vasaloppet. The women got a new record time too with Lina Korsgren snatching her third win with Marit Björgen in second place.
This Sunday morning, March 7, 2021, millions of TV viewers will sit down at home, as always, to follow the start of the 97th Vasaloppet in Sälen. This year has a different start location, a new finish and separate start times for men and women for the first time ever. Here are the conditions for this year's edition of the world's most prestigious cross-country ski race – sometimes referred to as the long distance world championship.

In a time when we need to keep our physical distance, Vasaloppet is investing in spreading ski experiences from the Vasaloppet Arena with free TV broadcasts via the dedicated streaming service Vasaloppet.TV. Here viewers can follow both the elite competitions – Tjejvasan and Vasaloppet – and the many skiers taking on Vasaåket 2021 in the Vasaloppet Arena.
