Preparations in the Vasaloppet Arena for the Winter Week 2020 are going according to plan. Snow distribution has started and extra snow cannons have been borrowed to optimize snow production.
Vasaloppet is taking a short holiday. Vasaloppet’s House is closed from Monday, December 23 up until Monday, January 6.
A determined alpine skier and a dedicated orienteer, both equally surprised and excited about the appointment. The 2020 Kranskulla and Kransmas are Fanny Axelsson, IFK Mora Alpina, and Daniel Duhlbo, IFK Mora Orienteringsklubb. Let us introduce them!
It's only 44 seconds long but many people associate it directly with the mood of the Vasaloppet Arena. As has been requested, the Vasaloppet theme is now available on Spotify and as a downloadable MP3 at Apple Music/iTunes, Amazon and Google Play. Maybe something to add to the training playlist?
Getting a medal after finishing is an important symbol for many race participants. Vasaloppet has previously only awarded medals in certain races but Vasaloppet leadership has decided that from Vasaloppet's Winter and Summer Weeks 2020 all participants who complete their races will receive a medal. Three different categories of medals will be awarded: Placement medals, Achievement medals and Participation medals, all in a new design with a nice new ribbon. The purpose is to strengthen the ceremony at the finish and give everyone the attention they deserve. At the same time participants can choose not to receive their medal if they do not want one.
Vasaloppet on March 1st 2020 is fully booked, but you can choose to take part in one (or two) of our other ten amazing ski races in Vasaloppet’s Winter Week 2020. For example in the 40th anniversary of Öppet Spår (Open Track), where the track is exactly the same as in Vasaloppet and it runs past the same checkpoints.
Visma Ski Classics Climb competition was implemented season VII and has grown into a prestigious one with valuable points to collect both individually and for the Pro Team competition. In every event there is up to two Climb checkpoints. There has not been any in Vasaloppet before but for the coming season X that will change.
Two ski races will change names before Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2020. From now on Kortvasan will be known as Vasaloppet 30 and Halvvasan becomes Vasaloppet 45. "We see this as a natural step in our development; the new names fit well into our varied family of races," says Vasaloppet's Development Manager Johan Eriksson.
Nattvasan 90 and Nattvasan 45 will, from Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2020, be part of Vasaloppstrippeln 90 and Vasaloppstrippeln 45. Because of this, so-called roping, where participants link up with a rope to help one another, will no longer be allowed in Nattvasan, though participants still ski together in two-person teams.
In 2020 it will be 500 years since Gustav Vasa's adventure in Dalarna, 1520–21, and 98 years since the first Vasaloppet in 1922. This last decade Vasaloppet has seen the number of registered participants double! These past five years we've been able to celebrate getting close to 100,000 participants, though that magic number hasn't been reached yet. Vasaloppet can now proudly introduce the Vasaloppet year 2020 with more challenges and races than ever to choose from. Registration for Vasaloppet's Summer Week 2020 opens on Sunday, September 15.
