Vasaloppet 2018 offered exciting upheavals in both the men's and women's class. Norwegian Andreas Nygaard spurted his way to victory ahead of Swedish surprise Bob Impola in the men's class, and Lina Korsgren ended up winning the women's class almost five minutes ahead of Astrid Öyre Slind.
The 94th Vasaloppet will start in Sälen on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at 08:00. The 15,800 start places were fully booked in under five minutes, when released two weeks after last year's race. In total around 65,000 participants have registered for the ten races in Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2018. This is the 41st year that Vasaloppet will be broadcast live on Swedish Television. LATEST NEWS ABOUT NATTVASAN: The race will start, as planned, in Sälen at 20:00 tonight. Weather forecast is that it will be minus 20 degrees at the starting area but it will slowly get warmer during the race. All seven official checkpoints will serve warm beverages and there will be buses on site if you need to warm yourself. Make sure to bring extra batteries, keep them close to your body, and make sure you have warm beverages in your rucksack. And stay safe, make sure that you and your partner stay warm during the race. Bring extra and warm clothes.
Visma Ski Classics Event 8, Vasaloppet is the world´s biggest and one of the most prestigious events and it is now getting very close to the start of this Swedish classic. The upcoming Sunday, the 4th of March at CET 08:00 about 16000 skiers starts their 90 km long journey from Sälen to Mora.
Due to the cold, the start of the Ungdomsvasan will be postponed.
An exciting spurt on the final stretch in Mora decided the winner of the 30th anniversary Tjejvasan. Czech Katerina Smutná fought her way past Britta Johansson Norgren and took her first Tjejvasan victory.
It's high time to register for Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2018. Over 61,000 are already registered but there are still plenty of places available for those who want to ski in a race (or several). You can register online at vasaloppet.se up until Tuesday, February 20, at midnight. After that, registering on location is the only option!
By Vasaloppet's CEO Eva-Lena Frick: It's Saturday morning, time for a winter premiere. One that's been delayed far too long due to broken bones and troubled knees. Conditions have been excellent this whole winter. Masses of snow and nice, cold weather. Firm, fine ski tracks run through the arena from Sälen to Mora.
Several participants had a penalty of 15 minutes added to their time after littering where not allowed during their participation in a 2017 Vasaloppet race. This rule also applies in 2018 and monitoring has now been strengthened with an increased number of inspectors, using better equipment.
Vasaloppet is now launching Vasaloppstrippeln 45, where the goal is to ski Halvvasan, bike Cykelvasan 45 and walk, run or jog Ultravasan 45. Ever since Vasaloppet introduced the individual running race Ultravasan in 2014 participants have been able to take on the challenge of completing three types of races – skiing, mountain biking and running. It's an achievement that, since 2016, goes under the official name Vasaloppstrippeln. In 2017 there were 121 participants who completed the three 90-kilometre races in forefathers' tracks.
