There was an Olympic shine over Cykelvasan 90 2024. Double Olympic medallist Jenny Rissveds from Falu Cykelklubb won the women’s class convincingly, finishing over five minutes ahead of runner-up Lejla Njemcevic from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The men's class saw a Norwegian-Danish duel with Simon Andreassen, who also competed in the Paris Olympics, winning the sprint on Vasagatan in Mora ahead of Norway’s Emil Hasund Eid. This marked Denmark's first victory in Cykelvasan. A total of over 14,000 participants registered for the various Cykelvasan races this year, a cycling fest where the last participants are expected to finish in Mora this evening. Vasaloppet's Summer Week 2024 continues next weekend with running events in the Vasaloppet Arena.
From August 5–11, the Vasaloppet Bike Festival will take place in Sälen, culminating in Cykelvasan 90 2024 from Sälen to Mora on Saturday, August 10. Sweden’s national broadcaster, SVT, will live broadcast this prestigious event, which caters to both elite and recreational cyclists, on SVT1 and SVT Play from 07:20 to 11:30. The race will also be broadcast live in Denmark, Finland, and Norway. The elite women start at 07:30 and the elite men at 08:15. With a week to go until the start, the final preparations are underway in the Vasaloppet Arena, which is now ready to welcome all participants to Vasaloppet's Summer Week 2024. This week, preparations include stocking up on energy supplies at the seven Vasaloppet checkpoints and placing kilometre markers.
The reigning American 100-mile champion, ultrarunner Rajpaul “Lightning Raj” Pannu, has confirmed his participation in Ultravasan 90, which takes place on Saturday, August 17. The interest in the Nordic region's largest ultramarathon is, as usual, very high, and the Swedish elite will surely face a challenge with Rajpaul Pannu's presence. In early 2024, he travelled to space and back. With him, he carried both a medal and a number bib from Vasaloppet. During Vasaloppet's Summer Week on Friday, August 16, these space-travelled items will return to Dalarna when Mora-born astronaut Marcus Wandt personally hands them over to Vasaloppet in Mora.
Funkisvasan will become one of the regular races on the programme for Vasaloppet's Summer Week 2024. A test race for invited participants was conducted during the Summer Week 2023, and following a very positive reception, Funkisvasan is now open to more participants.
On Saturday, August 10, the 16th edition of Cykelvasan 90 will take place. Sveriges Television will broadcast the race live from start to finish, just like the winter Vasaloppet – and this year, Cykelvasan 90, the largest mountain bike race in the Nordics, will also be broadcast in Norway, Denmark, and Finland. National MTB teams from these three countries will be present to compete for victory, honour, and prize money in both the women's and men's classes.
Cykelvasan is Vasaloppet on wheels. On Friday and Saturday, August 9–10, participants can choose between five different cycling races in the Vasaloppet Arena. Additionally, it’s the premiere of the Vasaloppet Bike Festival, which runs throughout the week in Lindvallen, Sälen, with exhibitors from the cycling industry, spectacular shows, social rides with various cycling profiles, and not least the Vasaloppet Bike Party. In total, there are over 30 fun activities to choose from for the whole family.
