Traffic and transport
Vasaloppet events lead to a lot of traffic on the roads around Mora and Sälen. On this page you’ll find tips on how to get here and everything you need to know about travel options to location, our buses, and closed roads when you’re on location.
By train, bus or plane you can get all the way, no matter where your journey starts.
Most choose to travel by car which often leads to a highly strained traffic situation. If you choose car it is important to be out in good time. A good rule of thumb is to add at least an hour to your travel time. Keep in mind that a day in the tracks can be exhausting, and it is important to get a good amount of sleep before heading back home.
Direct buses and trains run every day from Stockholm to Mora, and buses run from Malmö via Göteborg to Sälen.
Many sports clubs hire private buses or travel together with other clubs. Check with your local sports club!

Sälen – The Vasaloppet start in Berga by
Overnight parking for campers and caravans are available at Tjärnhedens IP. There is access to showers and toilets in the basement of the clubhouse. The spots cost 350 SEK per night and can be paid with card during the evening by the inspector. No pre-booking available. The money goes to the children and youth activities of Sälens IF.

During the night before Sunday, 28 February, and the night before Sunday, 7 March, motorhomes and caravans are allowed to park in parking areas A5, B1, B3, and C1 on the west side of the Västerdalälven river. Follow the signs. There is no access to electricity, toilets, or waste disposal at these parking areas.

Oxberg – Start area in Oxberg
Campers and caravans are permitted to park at the car park by the Oxberg start. It is not possible to pre-book these parking spaces. It is forbidden to park a caravan or camper anywhere except where the signs indicate, so make sure to follow the signs. At this car park there is no access to electricity or water.

Mora – Vasaliden
Campers and caravans are permitted to park at the car park at Vasaliden. It is forbidden to park a caravan or camper anywhere except where the signs indicate, so make sure to follow the signs. At this car park there is no access to electricity or water. You can then walk to the finish area and trade fair in Mora; there is a marked walkway, approximately 1,300 metres long.

We recommend that all participants take the bus to the start or carpool. If you must drive, leave in plenty of time, keep to the speed limit and be considerate.

Once you’re on location, you can easily travel between Sälen and Mora with our Vasaloppet buses, regardless of which race you’re participating in.
