Sunday, March 2 – Vasaloppet
Time restrictions extended
All cut-off times will be adjusted by 15 minutes. New cut off times:
Oxberg: 16.45
Hökberg: 17.55
Eldris: 19.15
Traffic
A very busy traffic day is expected. If you are traveling by car, start your journey to the start area in good time (plan for at least double the normal travel time) and check maps and information about one-way roads, road closures, and ongoing traffic projects: Traffic and transport
Parking at the start area in Sälen
Follow the signs and instructions from parking attendants to find the correct parking area. The new parking area on the west side of the river is closed, as it’s not safe to cross the ice.
Weather
The day is expected to be partly cloudy to overcast, with temperatures ranging from 2°C at the start to approximately 5–7°C along the course. No precipitation is expected. Check SMHI for the latest updates.
Conditions in the Vasaloppet Arena
At the beginning of the week, the bogs around the Smågan checkpoint were very wet. Efforts to drain the water have been successful, and sub-zero temperatures have caused the ground to freeze. However, at the start area in Sälen, just before the road crossing, there is a small tarn that has not yet frozen. As a result, the track bed will narrow at this point before the first climb, meaning more participants will queue on flat ground rather than on the hill.
Overall, snow conditions are good, but the quality of the tracks will be affected throughout the day by warmer temperatures and over 15,000 participants. Grooming will take place whenever possible.
Advice!
- Pack your change of clothes in sealed plastic bags before placing them in the bag you send to Mora, so you have a dry change of clothes ready after the race.
- If you expect your race to take more than 9 hours, bring a headlamp and extra batteries. It gets dark quickly around 5 PM.
- Despite ice control measures, parking areas and walkways may still be icy.
- For everyone’s safety and security, please do not leave your bag unattended.
