Double course records for winners Amanda Bohlin and Eric Pedersen in Cykelvasan 90 2026

Two spectacular solo rides and two new course records were the highlights of Cykelvasan 90 2026. In the women’s race, Amanda Bohlin claimed her third victory after breaking away as early as the second kilometre. In the men’s race, Eric Pedersen attacked after 15 kilometres and impressively held off the chasing group all the way to the finish.

Conditions were close to perfect as Cykelvasan 90 got underway. Nearly 8,000 cyclists registered to take on Saturday’s challenge in forefathers’ tracks.

Elite women
The elite women were first to set off from the start in Berga by, and there was little doubt about the race from the outset. Last year’s winner Amanda Bohlin, Umara Racing Division, went full throttle on the very first climb. Halfway up to the highest point of the race, she opened up a gap, and by the time she won the sprint prize at the summit after three kilometres, she had secured a ten second lead over last year’s runner-up Lejla Njemcevic.

“It wasn’t the plan to go alone the whole way. But when I looked back and saw that Lejla had eased off a little, I thought I’d go as hard as I could and see if they caught me. I went for all or nothing,” said Bohlin in the winner’s interview.

At Smågan, Bohlin was one minute ahead of a chasing group of five (Nathalie Eklund, Njemcevic, Madelene Höglund, Clara Lundmark and Antonia Gröndahl).

At Mångsbodarna, the chasing group had almost halved the gap to Bohlin, and on the way to Risberg, the chasers (now reduced to a quartet after Nathalie Eklund dropped back with gear problems) closed another 16 seconds, bringing the lead down to 18 seconds.

“I wasn’t sure how big the gap behind me was, because I was getting conflicting reports. When I looked back and saw the group close behind, I felt a little panicky. But then those long, tough climbs came, to my benefit. I just had to try to stay ahead. I knew there were several riders in the chasing group who are very strong sprinters. And I didn’t want to have to deal with them,” Bohlin said with a smile.

At the Hill Prize in Evertsberg, Bohlin’s lead had increased to 29 seconds. In Oxberg, the lead was more than a minute, and in Hökberg it was more than two. By the finish line, the gap had grown to four minutes – and that is including Bohlin taking the time to receive the victory wreath from Kransmas William Mathisen.

Bohlin’s winning time was 2:53:43, also a new course record, securing her third Cykelvasan 90 victory (she also won in 2023 and 2025).

“I’ve been saying that ‘Vasan’ doesn’t suit me. But I’ll have to stop saying that, because apparently it’s my race,” said Bohlin.

The battle for second place was decided in a thrilling sprint. Clara Lundmark of Norberg was strongest, just ahead of Finnish Antonia Gröndahl (who races for Göteborgs cykelklubb).

Elite men
In the men’s race, unlike the women, a large group stayed together all the way to the top of the challenging first climb. Viktor Lindqvist won the sprint prize at the summit, having increased the pace just before the top. But as many as 58 cyclists were still part of the leading group when they reached the top.

The group was still intact at Smågan, eight kilometres later. Belgian cyclist Hans Becking was first through the checkpoint. But five kilometres later, Eric Pedersen of CK Hymer launched an attack and opened up a gap:

“I wanted to have a gap going into the technical section that was coming up. But when I got reports that the gap was growing, I just had to keep pushing and go as long as I could. There was no point waiting for them, and I really felt that I was having a good day,” said Eric Pedersen.

At Mångsbodarna, Pedersen’s lead was one minute, and at the Hill Prize in Evertsberg he had extended his advantage over the large chasing group to one and a half minutes.

The chase of Pedersen really got underway just before Oxberg as last year’s winner Østen Brovold Midtsundstad stepped up the pace along with this year’s first and second in the Swedish Långloppscupen cup, Viktor Lindqvist and Edvin Elofsson.

The trio was 33 seconds behind Pedersen at Hökberg, but the 22-year-old from Falkenberg managed to hold them off all the way to Mora. However, he did not dare accept the victory wreath from Kranskulla Maja Stefansson until he had crossed the finish line.

“This win means so much to me. This is my first elite victory. I can’t quite take it in yet. It feels incredible,” said Pedersen, who crossed the finish line in 2:31:28, also a new course record, 26 seconds ahead of last year’s winner Østen Brovold Midtsundstad. Viktor Lindqvist finished third.

New sprint competition
Instead of awarding a sprint prize winner at each checkpoint, cyclists this year collected points at each of the seven checkpoints. The first five cyclists at each checkpoint receive 10, 7, 5, 3 and 2 points respectively. At Evertsberg, double points are awarded: 20, 14, 10, 6 and 4 points.

The first woman and man to reach Vasaloppet’s highest point, 528 metres above sea level, also receive sprint prizes of 5,000 SEK.

Prizes
The winner of Cykelvasan 90 receives a laurel wreath, Vasaloppet’s new victory trophy, a Dala horse, a gold medal and 40,000 SEK. The top ten women and top ten men each receive prize money. The total prize sum for 2026 (including the new sprint prizes) is 288,000 SEK.
