Everything ahead of Tjejvasan 2024
The Tjejvasan start will take place on Saturday, February 24, at 09:00, setting off the world's largest ski race exclusively for women, covering 30 km from Oxberg to Mora. This year's race, the 36th Tjejvasan, has attracted 6,400 registered participants so far. Tjejvasan is now classified as a Challenger race within Ski Classics and it has a competition class for both seniors (D21) and juniors (D17–20). Starting from this year, you can participate in Tjejvasan's recreational class from the year you turn 11 (born in 2013). Sveriges Television will broadcast Tjejvasan live, and for those eager to ski thirty delightful kilometres, it's just a matter of signing up, which you can do until the day of the race. Here are all the conditions ahead of Tjejvasan 2024.
Registration can be done on location at the race offices in Mora and Sälen from Thursday, February 22 at 12:00. You can also register at the start location race office in Oxberg on Saturday. Since its premiere in 1988, a total of 197,237 finishes have been registered in Tjejvasan! Who will be number 200,000 across the finish line?
Did you know? Tjej means girl in Swedish, Vasan is short for Vasaloppet.
Elite
About 6.5 percent of participants compete in the competition class, with the rest in the recreational class. The top 10 finishers from Tjejvasan 2023 will have the same start number in Tjejvasan 2024 as their placement in 2023. Who will win the victory wreath and the 50,000 SEK prize? Ida Dahl is the reigning champion.
The start list for Tjejvasan 2024 includes many of the top performers in this year’s Ski Classics Pro Tour (see standings below). Each skier in Ski Classics can count their best result from the Challenger series each season. A victory in a Challenger race – such as Tjejvasan – earns 50 points (compared to 200 points in a regular Ski Classics race and 300 points in Vasaloppet). The result also affects the ranking, determining starting positions in Pro Tour races. The placement in Tjejvasan becomes particularly important for those who did not participate in any Challenger roller ski races last summer or any other Challenger races this winter.
In the junior competition class (D17–20), which was created in 2022, there are currently about 50 registered participants. Notably, Evelina Crüsell, who won the junior class in Tjejvasan 2023, won two Junior World Championship gold medals in 2024.
In the senior competition, we find six of the top ten from Tjejvasan 2023. Last year’s runner-up Magni Smedås has unfortunately withdrawn due to respiratory problems. In addition to most of the best long-distance skiers from Ski Classics right now, there are many other skiers registered: Last year’s fourth place Moa Lundgren, who was also sixth and fourth in Grönklitt this weekend, and Moa Hansson who was seventh in Tjejvasan 2023. Other names are Sofia Henriksson, Louise Lindström and more…
More registrations may come in right up to the start.

Prizes in the senior class
Individual prizes in the form of training scholarships totalling 134,000 SEK (including sprint prizes) are awarded. The winner receives 50,000 SEK. The top 6 are all awarded prizes.
Hökberg sprint prize: 5,000 SEK. Eldris sprint prize: 5,000 SEK.
Placement medals – gold, silver and bronze – are awarded to those who place first, second and third. All participants who reach the finish line will receive a medal.
Record bonus
If a skier sets a new record time in Tjejvasan they will receive a 50,000 SEK record bonus. The current Tjejvasan record is from 2022 when Britta Johansson Norgren completed the race in 1.15.39.2, beating her own record time of 1.16.44 from 2017 by one minute and five seconds. Britta’s time to Hökberg in 2022 was 28.36 min and Eldris 53.56 min.
Kransmas
This year’s Kransmas, the 36th, is Gustav Johnsson, active within IFK Mora.
The Kransmas honorary award
When Tjejvasan celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2018, a new tradition was introduced where all Kransmas through the years join together to raise money for a woven pillow from Mora Hemslöjd, embroidered with ”Kransmasarnas hederspris Tjejvasan 2024” (The Kransmas honorary award Tjejvasan 2024). The pillow is awarded to the Tjejvasan victor.
Prizes in the junior class
Individual prizes in the form of training scholarships are also awarded in the junior class, totalling 22,000 SEK to the top six participants. The junior class winner receives 10,000 SEK. Sprint prizes are awarded to the first woman, irrespective of class. Should a junior competitor cross the finish line first of all, she would of course win Tjejvasan, receiving the victory wreath and 50,000 SEK, but it’s not possible to win the prize money from both classes.
