Everything ahead of Tjejvasan 2025 – the 37th edition
On Saturday, February 22, at 09:00, Tjejvasan – the world’s largest ski race exclusively for women – will begin. The 30 km course runs from Oxberg to Mora. Interest in the race is high, with an increase in registrations compared to last year. This year’s race, the 37th edition, has so far attracted over 6,500 participants. Anyone keen to ski thirty fantastic kilometres can still register, with registration open until race day. Tjejvasan is now also a Ski Classics Challenger race, featuring both a senior competition class (D21) and a junior competition class (D17–20). Sveriges Television has, per tradition, broadcast Tjejvasan live ever since 2012. We can now present – also per tradition – all the conditions ahead of Tjejvasan 2025.
Registration on location can be completed at the race offices in Mora and Sälen from Thursday, February 20, at 12:00. Registration is also possible at the race office by the Oxberg start on Saturday. You can participate in the leisure class from the year you turn 11 (born 2014), and in the competition class from the year you turn 17 (born 2008). The youngest participant in Tjejvasan 2025 is 10 years old, and the oldest is 89. The average age in 2025 is 41.5 years, with participants from 28 different nations. This year 44% of registered participants are taking part in Tjejvasan for the first time.
Since Tjejvasan’s inception in 1988, a total of 202,742 finishers have been recorded!
Elite competitors
About 6–7 % of participants are in the competition class, while the rest enter recreationally in the leisure class. The top 10 finishers from Tjejvasan 2024 will have the same start number in Tjejvasan 2025 as their placement in 2024.
The start list for Tjejvasan 2025 includes many of the top performers in this year’s Ski Classics Pro Tour (see standings below). Each skier in Ski Classics can count their best result from the Challenger series each season. A victory in a Challenger race – such as Tjejvasan – earns 50 points (for comparison, winning a Grand Classics race like Vasaloppet earns you 500 points, a regular long-distance ski race earns 300 points and an ITT race 200 points). The result also affects the ranking, determining starting positions in Pro Tour races. The placement in Tjejvasan becomes particularly important for those who did not participate in any Challenger roller ski races last summer or any other Challenger races this winter.
In the senior class, several of the best from Tjejvasan 2024 are competing, among them winner Kati Roivas and runner-up Emilie Fleten. In addition to many of the top long-distance skiers from Ski Classics, other strong athletes are also registered. In the junior competition class (D17–20), which was created in 2022, there are currently about 40 registered participants so far.
More registrations may still come in before the start.

Start
Tjejvasan’s competition classes, groups Elite, 1A, 1B and 2, start at 09:00. After that a new group with 500 participants starts every 15 minutes. Start groups 3 and 4 require seeding. (Start numbers indicate start groups; Group 2 goes from number 2000, Group 13 goes from number 13000, etc.)
Follow participants with the official Vasaloppet app >
Prizes in the senior class
Individual prizes in the form of training scholarships totalling 134,000 SEK (including sprint prizes) are awarded. The winner receives 50,000 SEK. The top 6 are all awarded prizes.
Hökberg sprint prize: 5,000 SEK. Eldris sprint prize: 5,000 SEK.
Placement medals – gold, silver and bronze – are awarded to those who place first, second and third. All participants who reach the finish line will receive a medal.
Record bonus
If a skier sets a new record time in Tjejvasan they will receive a 50,000 SEK record bonus. The current Tjejvasan record is from 2022 when Britta Johansson Norgren completed the race in 1.15.39.2, beating her own record time of 1.16.44 from 2017 by one minute and five seconds. Britta’s time to Hökberg in 2022 was 28.36 min and Eldris 53.56 min. The second-fastest race was in 2024, when Kati Roivas finished in 1:16:14, just 35 seconds from the record.
Kransmas
This year’s Kransmas, the 37th, is Arvid Jerkgård, active within IFK Mora Fotboll.
The Kransmas honorary award
When Tjejvasan celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2018, a new tradition was introduced where all Kransmas through the years join together to raise money for a woven pillow from Mora Hemslöjd, embroidered with ”Kransmasarnas hederspris Tjejvasan 2025” (The Kransmas honorary award Tjejvasan 2025). The pillow is awarded to the Tjejvasan victor.
Prizes in the junior class
Individual prizes in the form of training scholarships are also awarded in the junior class, totalling 22,000 SEK to the top six participants. The junior class winner receives 10,000 SEK. Sprint prizes are awarded to the first woman, irrespective of class. Should a junior competitor cross the finish line first of all, she would of course win Tjejvasan, receiving the victory wreath and 50,000 SEK, but it’s not possible to win the prize money from both classes.

Notably, 17 of the 20 latest races have been settled via sprints on the finishing stretch. Last year, the top four all crossed the finish line within seven tenth of a second. The last time the winner could ski up the final stretch on their own was in 2020, when Britta Johansson Norgren won by 38 seconds.
