Jenny Larsson won Tjejvasan 2025

Jenny Larsson, Lager 157 Ski Team, won Tjejvasan – the world’s largest ski race exclusively for women – ahead of Louise Lindström, Team Eksjöhus, and Julie Kvale Støstad, Team Ramudden. The junior class was won by Alva Hedström from Funäsdalens IF, with Anna Aukland from Norway in second place and Ines Lignell from Lucksta IF in third.

This year’s Tjejvasan, the 37th edition, attracted 6,500 registered participants. It was cloudy and three degrees Celsius when the race started at 09:00 in Oxberg, kicking off the 30 km to Mora. The elite class included ten of the current top twenty ranked skiers from the international long-distance ski cup Ski Classics.

Jenny Larsson led the way to the first Vasaloppet checkpoint in Oxberg, 2 km in, followed by last year’s runner-up Emilie Fleten from Norway and the 2024 winner Kati Roivas from Finland. The pace was high, and after ten minutes, the leading pack consisted of eleven skiers.

Emilie Fleten and Jenny Larsson pushed the hardest, setting the pace. Jenny Larsson secured the sprint prize in Hökberg after 11 km, ahead of Hanna Lodin and Emilie Fleten. Also in the lead pack were Louise Lindström, Julie Kvale Støstad, and Kati Roivas. By this point, it was clear that no new record time would be set. These six skiers took turns leading the race.

Jenny Larsson also claimed the sprint prize in Eldris, with 9 km remaining. However, all six skiers were still together, and the race was wide open. With 4 km to go, Emilie Fleten launched an attack, which Kati Roivas seemed to have the most difficulty keeping up with.

Entering Mora, Emilie Fleten was still leading. How would the sprint finish unfold? Fleten was first over the Aukland bridge, but she missed the inside lane at the Zorn Museum corner, allowing the others to suddenly overtake her. Jenny Larsson was the first to enter the home stretch, ahead of Louise Lindström and Julie Kvale Støstad.

Jenny Larsson held off her rivals over the long final straight and won Tjejvasan 2025, finishing a second ahead of Louise Lindström. A Norwegian skier made the podium as Julie Kvale Støstad edged out Kati Roivas in a photo finish for third. Hanna Lodin placed fifth, and Emilie Fleten finished sixth.

Jenny Larsson had previously placed fifth in Tjejvasan 2020 and 2021 and had five top three finishes in Ski Classics this season but no victory. However, today she proved her strength with a powerful finish:
“I had just one focus, to cross that finish line first,” Jenny Larsson told Sveriges Television after the race. “I’ve wanted this win for a long time, and it’s so great to finally have it. I felt strong but I was a bit unsure as I’ve been quite fatigued this week, which was part of my plan, but you never know how your body will respond on race day. I felt a bit sluggish in the first ten kilometres, but then I really found my rhythm. I had to trust that and save everything for the sprint. I’m so happy it worked out.”

When did you know you had the win?
“I probably felt it already in Moraparken! It doesn’t sound modest, but I knew I was having a really good day and great skis; everything was in place for success. I’m absolutely thrilled. This is one of the biggest moments in my career,” said Jenny Larsson.

Runner-up Louise Lindström, eighth in Tjejvasan 2024, and now competing in Ski Classics, said:
“It was fun today! I felt strong throughout the race, so it was difficult to pace myself. I often found myself at the front, but I knew that wasn’t the best tactical move… I’m happy it brought me onto the podium today.”

Louise Lindström on the final sprint:
“I felt a bit inexperienced in the sprint finish because in the Ski Classics races I’ve done so far, I haven’t been in contention at the finish, but I took the inside lane and gave it my all. I had hoped to move out, but Jenny was too strong today. I’m really happy and proud that I dared to take on Ski Classics this season, and I feel like I’m improving as a skier in every way.”

Third-place finisher Julie Kvale Støstad also snagged her first top three placement after a photo finish:
“It was nice to find out I was third. I’m used to fighting for a top ten, so making the podium is a big achievement for me. My goal was to stay in the lead pack as long as possible and go for the sprint. It was a fantastic race, great conditions and a fun experience. I’ll be back!”

In just eight days, the 101st Vasaloppet will take place. Who will emerge victorious? Only six times in history have Tjejvasan and Vasaloppet had the same winner…

The Junior class (D17–20) competition ran this year for the fourth time and Alva Hedström from Funäsdalen won, ahead of Anna Aukland from Norway and Ines Lignell from Lucksta.
