Kortvasan becomes Vasaloppet 30 and Halvvasan becomes Vasaloppet 45

Two ski races will change names before Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2020. From now on Kortvasan will be known as Vasaloppet 30 and Halvvasan becomes Vasaloppet 45.
"We see this as a natural step in our development; the new names fit well into our varied family of races," says Vasaloppet's Development Manager Johan Eriksson.

The idea behind the name change from Kortvasan and Halvvasan to Vasaloppet 30 and Vasaloppet 45 is also to create a closer connection with Vasaloppet’s strong brand.
”A ‘short’ distance or ‘half’ distance can be very subjective while the number of kilometres is more clear. Many care about participating in Vasaloppet, regardless of the distance they’re taking on,” says Johan Eriksson.

With these new names, Vasaloppet 30 and Vasaloppet 45, it will be easier to link these races with the increasingly popular Vasaloppstrippeln challenge where participants ski, bike and run Vasaloppet during one and the same calendar year. This challenge comes in three varieties, 90, 45 and 30 kilometres.
”Interest in Vasaloppstrippeln is steadily growing and there are already nearly 350 participants registered to ski, bike and run Vasaloppet in 2020. This is a fantastic development and it’s very fun to see so many people already dedicated to completing three challenges next year,” says Johan Eriksson.

History

Vasaloppet 30 (formerly Kortvasan) and Vasaloppet 45 (formerly Halvvasan) started in 1997 as more and more requests were coming in for Vasaloppet to hold races with shorter distances. The names have varied over the years from Kort-Vasan, when the race was only directed at those who had ICA-cards, to Kortvasan and now Vasaloppet 30, still with Vasaloppet’s collaborator ICA as host.

Vasaloppet 45 (formerly Halvvasan) was primarily aimed at men since there were requests for a race specifically for men after Tjejvasan’s premiere in 1988. The name started as 45:man but the race soon opened up for everyone and became 45:an, later taking the name Halvvasan in 1999.

From today, October 22, 2019, the new names Vasaloppet 30 and Vasaloppet 45 will apply, including for the 24th edition of both races in the Winter Week 2020. Over 173, 000 participants have completed these races since 1997!
