Make history in the 100th Vasaloppet 2024 – registration opens when the first skier in this year's Vasaloppet passes Mångsbodarna
A 100-year tradition, a ski festival and a test of strength! The 100th Vasaloppet will take place on Sunday, March 3, 2024. Start places for this unique race will be made available during this year's Vasaloppet, more specifically when the first elite skier passes Mångsbodarna.
Vasaloppet 2023 runs on Sunday, March 5 and it’s fully booked with 15,800 participants. Each year, an audience of millions in Sweden and abroad view the live broadcast.
”We want to capture the energy and strength of skiing Sweden when it’s at its highest, to extend our invitation to one heck of a party; the historic 100th Vasaloppet in 2024,” says Johan Eriksson, CEO of Vasaloppet.
Many have yearned and waited and 2024 is finally the time. 2022 marked 100 years since the first Vasaloppet but as the classic race has been cancelled on three occasions (1932, 1934 and 1990), the 100th Vasaloppet takes place on Sunday, March 3, 2024. Which will of course be celebrated in several ways.
”A unique 100-year medal will be presented to all participants in Vasaloppet 2024 and we plan to recreate different environments in the Vasaloppet Arena, reminiscent of the decades that have passed since then. The goal is for participants to have an inspiring and wonderful experience in a historic race,” says Johan Eriksson.
The skier in this year’s Vasaloppet who first passes the Mångsbodarna checkpoint (after 24 km) will win the sprint prize while also opening up the sale of start places for the 100th Vasaloppet. In addition, the sprint prize winners in Mångsbodarna, in both the men’s and women’s classes, will receive the first two start places in the 100th Vasaloppet in 2024, along with a special number bib showing – you guessed it – the number 100 on their chest.
Besides the 100th Vasaloppet, 2024 also has an exciting change: Starting next year, participants in Öppet Spår Monday can, in addition to picking classic ski style or skate, choose the distance they want to ski, picking between 28, 43 or 90 kilometres.
”Skating has become increasingly popular and many have asked for an opportunity to skate shorter distances during the day. Starting in 2024, we are bringing even greater flexibility to Öppet Spår Monday, which we think will appeal to many,” says Johan Eriksson.
Registration for other races during Vasaloppet’s Winter Week 2024 opens as early as Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 16:00, the same day that Tjejvasan runs.
