New-old route for a better running experience
Vasaloppet can now present a new course change for Ultravasan 90, Ultravasan 45, Vasastafetten and Vasakvartetten in the Summer Week 2017.
"The improved running experience decided this change. This new-old route offers our participants a wonderful running environment," says Anders “Hobbe” Holmberg, Vasaloppet's Arena Manager.
The section in question is about 3 kilometres between Krångåsen and Eldris which previously ran on a ten-metre-wide forest road, now moved east to the other side of a big wetland area. This new route carries historical weight.
”It’s actually not an entirely new section. This is where Vasaloppet on skis ran from 1935 to 1983. One of the reasons it was moved was how the sun impacted the snow and ski tracks, which obviously does not matter when the section is run on foot this August,” says Hobbe.
The first part of the new section runs along a narrow forest road with a sand surface, and at the end there are several winding paths before the course reaches the Eldris checkpoint. The three landowners affected by this change all look positively on the new route.
”For us it’s really fun to be able to, with relatively simple means, implement this change. In terms of distance there will be practically no difference; participants will not be affected other than, hopefully, enjoying more of the Vasaloppet Arena’s natural environs and feeling history alive around them as they make their way towards the finish,” says Hobbe.
