Statement regarding the start of Vasaloppet 2015
When Vasaloppet started at 08:00 on Sunday March 8, a problem arose with the start gates in front of the elite group.
Investigation has shown the cause to be a false start that caused the first group (0 and 1) to rush about four seconds early, which meant that the start gates could not lift when the actual start occurred. This caused crowding and several skiers were caught in the start gate’s wiring system.
The incident has been investigated by the competition jury and is judged not to have affected the outcome of the race. The competition management has decided not to penalize any specific individual. The sequence of events will be further analysed in order to avoid similar situations arising in the future.
