Ultravasan 90 awarded Swedish Championship status for 2026

Ultravasan 90 is Sweden’s largest ultramarathon, and in 2025 it has already broken its registration record with over 1,600 runners signed up. It is now also confirmed that Ultravasan 90 will carry Swedish Championship status in 2026. For the first time in Vasaloppet’s history, Swedish champions will be crowned in a race between Sälen and Mora.

Ultravasan 90 takes place every year during Vasaloppet’s Summer Week. This year’s edition will be held on Saturday, August 16, and despite the record-breaking registration numbers, there are still start positions available.

Each year, one short-distance and one long-distance Swedish trail running championship is organized, and the Swedish Athletics Federation has now announced the hosts and dates for the 2026 events. On Saturday, May 23, 2026, Sweden Runners IF will host the 29 km trail Swedish Championship race in Älvdalen. The long-distance Swedish Championship race will be held in conjunction with Ultravasan 90 on Saturday, August 15, 2026. The race will be 92 km, with both senior and masters categories. The organizers are IFK Mora Friidrottsklubb and Vasaloppet.

Swedish citizens who are members of a club affiliated with the Swedish Athletics Federation are eligible to compete in the Swedish Championship (see details below). Registration for Ultravasan 90 2026 and the Swedish Championship will open on August 6, 2025, along with the general registration for Vasaloppet’s Summer Week 2026.

“The Swedish Championship in trail running will raise awareness of Ultravasan, and add a new dimension to our event within elite long-distance running,” says Vasaloppet’s Sport Lead, Tommy Höglund. “Vasaloppet looks forward to welcoming additional elite athletes and combining them with recreational runners through the inclusion of the Swedish Championship in Ultravasan. We’re working to ensure a high level of sporting quality for the championship and believe this event will further strengthen the ties between the Athletics Federation and Vasaloppet.”
