Who will win Tjejvasan and Vasaloppet 2025?

February will be an intense month for cross-country skiing, especially in Dalarna. The World Cup in Falun, Ski Classics in Orsa, Tjejvasan from Oxberg to Mora, and then the 101st Vasaloppet on the first Sunday in March – all happening alongside the World Championships in Trondheim, Norway. Ski Classics has now completed 6 of the season's 14 races. The seventh race, Jizerská50 in the Czech Republic, will take place on Sunday, February 9. Here’s an overview of the current standings.

Andreas Nygaard, Team Ragde Charge, and Emilie Fleten, Team Ramudden, won the 70-kilometre Italian long-distance race Marcialonga, meaning they are now the only two skiers with a chance to achieve a Grand Slam –  winning all four of the ”Grand Classics”: Marcialonga, Jizerská50, Vasaloppet, and Birkebeinerrennet. No one in history has ever accomplished this feat in a single season. The reward for doing so is 100,000 EUR.

Max Novak, Team Aker Dæhlie, currently wears the yellow ”Champion” leader’s bib in Ski Classics. Max finished second in both La Venosta and Marcialonga and has placed in the top ten three additional times.

Emilie Fleten, winner of Vasaloppet 2024, leads the women’s overall standings ahead of Annikken Gjerde Alnæs, Team Engcon, and Silje Øyre Slind, Team Aker Dæhlie. Stina Nilsson, Team Ragde Charge, missed Marcialonga and has dropped to 11th place overall.

Annikken Gjerde Alnæs, Team Engcon, and Vebjørn Moen, Team Eksjöhus, lead the Sprint cup (green bib). Emilie Fleten, Team Ramudden, and Oskar Kardin, Lager 157 Ski Team, lead the Climb competition (black/red checkered bib). The top skiers in the ”Youth” category, those up to 26 years old (pink bib), are currently Hanna Lodin, Team Engcon, and Amund Riege, Team Ramudden. Team Engcon leads the team competition, Pro Team.

An intense ski calendar
For ski enthusiasts, the upcoming calendar is packed: February 14–16 has World Cup races in Falun, while Ski Classics hosts two races in Orsa Grönklitt on February 15–16. Saturday, February 22, is Tjejvasan, also a Ski Classics Challenger race. The World Championships in Trondheim are held February 26–March 9, overlapping with the highlight of the season for many – the 101st Vasaloppet on Sunday, March 2!

The question of ”Who will win?” could just as well be ”Who will race where?” For example, the second- and third-place skiers in the World Cup overall standings, Astrid Øyre Slind, Team Aker Dæhlie, and Victoria Carl, Team Ragde Charge, are both registered for Vasaloppet. Whether they actually compete remains to be seen.

The 37th Tjejvasan
Tjejvasan, 30 km, is a Challenger race within the Ski Classics series, awarding the winner 50 extra points (and 50,000 SEK) in the overall Ski Classics standings. In Tjejvasan 2024, Kati Roivas won just ahead of Emilie Fleten and Moa Lundgren. Tjejvasan also now features a junior category. Who will win Tjejvasan 2025? Will anyone race Tjejvasan as a warm-up for the World Championships, or will someone compete in Tjejvasan after not being selected for the World Championships?

The 101st Vasaloppet
Vasaloppet is the longest Ski Classics race this season. The winner of Vasaloppet receives 500 points and 101,000 SEK. Eleven of the last twelve men’s champions have been Norwegian. In Vasaloppet 2024, Torleif Syrstad won ahead of Johan Hoel and Alvar Myhlback. The women’s race also saw a Norwegian victory when Emilie Fleten defended her 2023 title, with Magni Smedås finishing second and Kati Roivas third. But who will win the 101st Vasaloppet?

Below are the current overall standings after six Ski Classics races. (Winning a Grand Classics race awards 500 points, a regular long-distance race 300 points, and an ITT race 200 points.)
