Work in progress in the upper section of the Vasaloppet Arena

Starting today, Tuesday, February 25, the first section of the Vasaloppet Arena up to Vasslan, just below Evertsberg, will be closed for skiing to preserve snow and prepare the tracks in the best possible way ahead of the weekend.

”We hope that people will understand and we welcome all who want to train to the lower section of the Vasaloppet Arena,” says Tommy Höglund, Sport Lead at Vasaloppet.

Vasaloppet 45 will take place on Tuesday, starting in Oxberg, continuing around the Oxberg lake and then joining the final 30 km of the Vasaloppet Arena towards the finish line in Mora. The course will be groomed and prepared as usual, and ski training is allowed even for those not participating in the race.

”It works well as long as people ski in the right direction and show consideration. The Vasaloppet Arena is always open, even during our races, so this rule remains in effect,” says Tommy Höglund.

The recent mild weather has affected the ski tracks in the western section of the Vasaloppet Arena, from Sälen down to Mångsbodarna and Evertsberg. Water has seeped onto the marshes, making some sections of the ski tracks wet. That section of the Vasaloppet Arena is now closed, and work is underway to prepare the tracks for the upcoming weekend’s events, including Stafettvasan, Nattvasan 30, 45, and 90, Vasaloppet 10, and the 101st Vasaloppet.

”We will be working to divert water and adjust the tracks in certain areas. Additionally, we will add more snow where possible. The weather forecast indicates below-freezing temperatures at night, so we expect the tracks to freeze well,” says Tommy Höglund.

Preparatory work is also taking place at the start area in Sälen ahead of the weekend’s races. Stafettvasan and Nattvasan 90 start from there on Friday, February 28, and Vasaloppet on Sunday, March 2.
