Welcome to Stafettvasan
Your race begins in Berga by, Sälen. You collect your number bibs in Mora or at the start area in Sälen, either in the days before the race, or at the start on race day. For sections one and two, the team has two plastic bags for a change of clothes, which will be transported to the next exchange. The other participants are responsible for their own clothes. For those skiing sections two and five, it is mandatory to take the bus to the exchange!
The start is divided into two groups: the first group starts at 07:00 and the second at 09:00. The first section is 24 km to Mångsbodarna, and the exchange is completed with a pat on the back. The second section is 24 km to Evertsberg, the third 14 km to Oxberg, the fourth 9 km to Hökberg, and the final section to the finish is 19 km. It is permitted for one person to ski more than one section if the team has fewer than five members.
Over the 90 kilometres of historic Vasaloppet terrain, the team passes seven checkpoints in total, where you can refill with drinks and energy and get ski wax assistance. Toilets and medical staff are available at all checkpoints. The basic rule on the track is: Keep to the right, overtake on the left. There are no cut-off times in Stafettvasan, but restarts may take place at the checkpoints in Evertsberg and Hökberg if the skier on the previous section does not arrive in time.
When the skier on the final section glimpses the church tower in Mora, the home stretch is approaching! Then it’s time for the rest of the team to gather so you can celebrate together at the finish and receive your well-earned medals. After celebrating, you’ll be offered drinks and refreshments. You can leave your skis in the ski deposit and take the free bus to the showers at Prästholmens IP, where your bag will be waiting. Afterwards, you can return to the finish area to collect your diplomas and skis and enjoy the atmosphere.
Every finish is a victory. See you on the track!

How the exchanges work
Exchanges take place at the Vasaloppet checkpoints. Complete the exchange by patting the back of the participant that is starting their stretch.
The Exchange area is well marked and our functionaries will assist you in making sure everythig runs quickly and smoothly. Only alerted teams may enter the exchange area.
Note that no team leaders are allowed inside the exchange area.
Along the Vasaloppet course there are seven official checkpoints: Smågan, Mångsbodarna, Risberg, Evertsberg, Oxberg, Hökberg and Eldris.
Drink and energy in various forms is served at all checkpoints. Specifics on what is served can be found on the detailed race map. At the checkpoints we offer grip wax services as well as minor equipment repairs. There are toilets and medical services at all checkpoints, as well as at the start and finish.

For safety and time reasons, restarts take place at the exchange checkpoints in Evertsberg and Hökberg. Teams that have not yet completed their exchange at that time will start their section together, pending approval from the checkpoint manager. The time will be announced via speakers.
For the same reasons, restarts may also occur at other exchange checkpoints. After the restart, the team continues the race and will receive a result after finishing.
| Checkpoint | Restart |
|---|---|
| Evertsberg | approx 14.00 |
| Hökberg | approx 16.00 |
For your security there are restrictions at some checkpoints; time limits after which you cannot pass. The checkpoint must be left 10 minutes after the time limit for arrival has expired.
If you arrive too late at a checkpoint you must abort the race. Bus transport to the finish in Mora will then be arranged.
If you reach the checkpoints within the time limits, you will be able to complete the race.
In extreme weather conditions the race directors have the right to change the time limits.
Checkpoint and time limit
Smågan, 10.30
Mångsbodarna, 12.15

Sometimes things don’t go as planned. It’s completely okay not to finish.
The team may restart at the next section and continue the race, though without competing. Participants will still get times for their sections.
Safety first:
Rescue and medical personnel have the right to remove participants from the course if they deem it necessary.
Your safety always comes before finishing the race.
One person may ski multiple sections.
The team receives five timing chips. Those planning to ski multiple sections should use the same chip for all sections and they may pass the exchange area without completing any exchange. Timing chips that are not used during the race should be returned to the race office at the start or at an exchange checkpoint.
Classic technique.
It is allowed to take off their skis only downhill. Swedish Ski Association rules apply.
