Third place went to Magni Smedås, Norway, in her first ever Tjejvasan.
On Saturday, February 26 it will once more be time for Tjejvasan, the 30-kilometre women's race in the Vasaloppet Arena, starting in Oxberg. 4,500 participants are registered for the 34th Tjejvasan and they will cross the finish line under a new finish line portal by the belfry in Mora. For the eleventh year in a row, Swedish Television broadcasts the world's largest ski race exclusively for women. Those who want to participate may register all the way up until the start. Here we will present all the conditions ahead of Tjejvasan 2022!
For the first time in two years, Vasaloppet can arrange exercise races and competitions as usual again – and there is great interest in participating. Today, nearly two weeks after Sweden lifted its restrictions, almost 50,000 skiers are registered for one of twelve races in the Vasaloppet Winter Week 2022. At the same time, those who cannot get to Dalarna can still complete their race at home – in Sweden or around the world. It's also possible to register right up until the start for the races that are not fully booked. Here we will present some numbers from this year's registration statistics.
The temperature was one degree below freezing and the weather a little overcast when Jubileumsvasan started in Sälen at 07:04 on Saturday morning. It was then exactly 36,490 days and one hour since the start of the very first Vasaloppet on March 19, 1922. Jubileumsvasan is a tribute race to the pioneers who started and completed the first race 100 years ago. Ernst Alm was first across the finish line back in 1922 and Erik Wikström from Sjömarken in Västergötland was first to cross the finish in 2022. But many had a tough time out in the track.
On Saturday, February 12, 2022, Jubileumsvasan will run – a race in tribute to the pioneers who started and carried out the very first Vasaloppet in 1922. You can see Jubileumsvasan as a living museum or a unique opportunity to travel 100 years back in time. The goal is that everything, as far as possible, should reflect the Vasaloppet race that participants experienced in the early 1920s. A winner will be crowned in Jubileumsvasan but the whole race is more of a celebration than a competition. Vasaloppet will broadcast Jubileumsvasan live, free of charge, on the streaming service Vasaloppet.TV starting at 06:55 in the morning.
Vasaloppet is today publishing short introductions to each of the 139 Jubileumsvasan participants who will be an important part of Vasaloppet's 100-year history! Starting in Jubileumsvasan on Saturday, February 12, are, for example, five Vasaloppet winners, a Kranskulla, two Kransmas, an Italian baker, a firefighter, a professor working at CERN in Switzerland, a member of the Riksdag, an infection control doctor, a forest ranger, a coast guard, a secondary school teacher, a priest... Just like in regular Vasaloppet, the start list is a real cross-section of society.
A singing, sporty multitasker and a competitive slalom skier. Both with solid backgrounds as Vasaloppet functionaries. The 2022 Kranskulla and Kransmas, who are now taking on what's often refferred to as the most honourable Vasaloppet functionary work, are Wilma Björkman from IFK Mora SK and Edvin Nilsson from Sälens IF Alpina.
Vasaloppet has been named this year's winner of the Grand Tourism Award in Sweden.
